Overall Review of the Game Fahrenheit: Indigo Prophecy for Android :

If you have never experienced any of Mr. David Cage’s unique and different games, now, in this relatively stagnant season of computer games, is the best time to get acquainted with one of his great games and await his next game. Undoubtedly, Mr. Davia de Gruttola, or our very own David Cage, can be considered among the top and most creative game developers in the world today, known for his different and very cinematic games. David Cage has shown through directing, designing, and writing the screenplays of his games how skilled he is in this field, and each of his creations is a very excellent title. He has tried to bring video games closer to the seventh art, cinema, and presents his stories and themes in the form of a game that is nothing less than a movie. His new game, Beyond: Two Souls, has a supernatural theme that resembles his previous game, Heavy Rain, but is much more similar to his other game, Fahrenheit. The protagonist of both games possesses a supernatural power that they later realize, and it is worth noting that before experiencing Beyond, we should take a look at this first game in David Cage’s style. Fahrenheit is considered David Cage’s second game after Omikron: The Nomad Soul, released in 2005. This game was released in North America as Indigo Prophecy due to the release of a film titled Fahrenheit 9/11 around the same time, which also had some changes. For example, some inappropriate scenes in the game were removed so that the game could obtain an M rating or adult rating.

A killer who is not guilty!

The main character of the game, Lucas Kane, is a computer engineer working at a bank. One snowy night, he commits a murder in the restroom of a restaurant, but after doing so, he realizes what he has done and, not knowing why he did it, quickly flees the scene. After him, a police officer who was drinking coffee inside the restaurant goes into the restroom, and it is then that the police realize this crime. Minutes later, Carla Valenti and Tyler Miles, two city police officers, arrive at the crime scene and, upon examining the murder scene, believe they are dealing with an ordinary murder, and the only thing they find there is a book by Shakespeare. Lucas, who had returned home after that, wakes up from a nightmare and thinks that the entire crime scene was just a dream, but after seeing his hands and the wounds he left on his hands with a knife before killing that man, he realizes that they were not just a nightmare and that these events actually happened to him! Lucas sees many nightmares every day, and the face of the victim is always in his mind, becoming a torment for him. To escape these nightmares, he decides to seek help from the only remaining family member, his brother Markus Kane, who is a priest. Lucas visits Markus and tells him about the murder and its unintentional nature and the incomprehensible images he saw while killing the man, and Markus introduces him to Agatha, a blind old woman, and Lucas goes to her to get his answers and realizes…

The story of Fahrenheit has so many details and nuances that describing or defining it is very, very difficult, and I will also try not to spoil it completely. David Cage in this game demonstrated how to tell a story from multiple perspectives and interpretations in such a way that it does not harm the main body of the story, and even this type of narration becomes a kind of main attraction of the game. For example, in the very first scenes of the game, you play as Lucas, who has killed someone he does not know, and he appears to be an innocent person, and you must try to erase the traces of the crime. But this same scene is followed this time from the perspective of police officers who consider the killer a criminal and a psychopath and must search for clues about this crime. The main body of the story revolves around a supernatural theme related to the rulers of the universe and the shaping of humanity’s fate and all beings with their decisions, and the game aims to introduce Lucas as a person who initially enters the story to save and free himself from nightmares and the guilt of the sin he committed, but later remains in the story as a person with a higher purpose than what he was striving for. Ultimately, the ending of the game has three different forms depending on your performance throughout the game, and this different ending depends on the choices and emotional states of the main character, and I prefer not to reveal any of them. The story of the game consists of a main body with a gray, sad, and very depressing atmosphere that has a significant impact on the audience, which remains in the minds of gamers for a long time, and the unforgettable characters of the game perform their roles well in this atmosphere. The game Fahrenheit delivers a masterpiece in this section, and the story and character of Lucas Kane can be considered one of the best stories and characters in video games, which are truly extraordinary and engage the audience for a long time.

The line between a killer and a savior

The game is divided into two main parts in terms of gameplay. The first part involves exploring the surrounding environment and interacting with objects, which is similar to all conventional adventure games, and the second part is the QTE (Quick Time Event) or button-pressing section! The first part does not require any special explanation, and there are almost no flaws except for very few scenes with inappropriate camera angles, but the button-pressing section is not without flaws. QTEs in Fahrenheit differ significantly from what we see in other games. In other games, during such scenes, a button, for example, X, is displayed on the screen that you must press immediately, but in the action scenes of Fahrenheit, two almost large circles, each consisting of four parts, are displayed on the screen throughout the fight, with each of these circles symbolizing one of the analog sticks. For example, if the top part of the right circle lights up, you must push the right analog stick up, which makes this action slightly more difficult due to the presence of another circle, but the difficulty does not bother you; rather, the excessive attention of the audience on the circles and button-pressing causes them to miss the cinematic scenes of the game. In this regard, there is a mechanic and element that creates a connection between the two main gameplay sections. This element, which indicates the character’s mental and emotional state, changes with every action in each section, and this mechanic connects the game’s story to the gameplay and affects how the story unfolds and the game’s ending. Overall, the gameplay of the game aligns well with the game’s story, and although some flaws are seen in it, they do not detract from the game at all, and they complement each other well, allowing players to easily overlook the issues.

Frozen Lake

David Cage set the events and occurrences throughout the game during the winter season, with severe cold and heavy snowfall, to create a more profound psychological impact on the audience. The entire city is covered in snow, and most of the colors used in the game’s environment are black, white, and gray, and this cold and snowfall give the game a unique appearance, which is even considered a symbol of the game. At first glance, the graphics of the game may seem weak after almost a generation (8 years) since its release, but it is still considered a technically acceptable title, and even this weakness, which was one of the best at its time, does not stand out due to the game’s excellent artistic design, and if you immerse yourself in the game, you will see nothing but Lucas and the cold, snowy environment of the game.

The Song of Crows

Angelo Badalamenti, who gained attention from David Cage after his work composing music for David Lynch’s films, was responsible for composing Fahrenheit. By creating heavy and atmospheric tracks suitable for the game’s mood, he demonstrated his mastery in this field and established a very good connection between the music and the game’s story. The music in Fahrenheit is beautifully and excellently done and won many video game music awards in 2005.

A Sad Hero…

Fahrenheit, despite its very minor flaws, is a masterpiece in every sense of the word, and experiencing it at any time is very enjoyable. I recommend that even if it is difficult, you should acquire and experience this game, but before that, I must warn you that this game, like Heavy Rain, is an engaging and even depressing game, and if you are not in a good mental state, do not approach the game for now, as I have experienced it myself.

Positive Points: Engaging and extraordinary story – Believable and unforgettable characters – Cinematic-level direction of game scenes – Flawless artistic design – Pleasing music

Negative Points: Poor camera angles in some scenes – Minor flaws in the action and button-pressing sections
